Wolfforth Library Fall 2021 Programs

Yep, you read that title correctly. We are in the middle of prepping our fall programs! I want you all to know how incredibly grateful we are for the growth in our programs, and we appreciate your patience as we try new things. When I started at the library in 2013, we had one monthly storytime during the school year and one a week during June and July — that’s it! If you like more concrete numbers, consider this….in 2013 we had 16 programs total for the year…and in 2019 we had 183! Anyways….

Our (okay my) calendar is looking packed full of events for the community (YAY!). We are actively trying to add programs for all ages, this is a bit of a challenge though since so many of our elementary+ students are heavily involved in extra-curricular programs. We are planning to offer events for older kids on those weird student holidays (for FISD only since this is our main school district). We are also working out details on a book club for 3rd-6th graders (everyone would be welcome, but this is the age the books would be). I have plenty of programs planned for younger children, including bringing back our “Bright from the Start” workshop series. Oh and adults, we are working on stuff for you all as well! PLEASE let us know what days and times work best for an adult program, and what type of programs you would attend. Check out the names of our programs we plan to offer (don’t worry, we will post dates soon!). These program names are what will appear on the calendar and hopefully make it easier to ask questions about (instead of just calling everything storytime).

Play Day: This will be what we call the dates our small program room is open. (the one in the back corner of the library; we call it the Calf Corner)

Tiny Tots: This is our weekly storytime sponsored by Literacy Lubbock for ages birth- 4 years, each family in attendance will receive a free book {while supplies last}.

Bookworm Storytime: This program will be a storytime for our preschool-first grade aged children, but all ages are welcome. We will read one longer story book, discuss the book, and play games or do a craft.

Wiggle Worm Storytime: This program will be for our 2-4 year olds, although any age is welcome. We will read four to five short picture books and do some movement rhymes and songs.

Baby Rhyme Time: This program is for birth-2 year olds and will require registration. We will do a ton of nursery rhymes, tickle rhymes, lap bounces, and more! (previously known as Mother Goose on the Loose)

Bright from the Start: This program is a five week workshop series for ages birth-3 years and their caregivers. We will have a special guest each week to discuss different aspects of a young child’s health and development. This program gives children a chance to play and make friends in a safe environment, while their caregivers get to connect with other adults going through the same stages and struggles.

Build and Learn: This program will take place on “student holidays” during the school year and is for 1st grade and up. We will provide “building” supplies and a challenge that encourages students to use their brains to solve a problem. This will be a Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) based program.

We look forward to seeing you all this fall!
